Bio
Dr. Mohamed Jamal received his DDS from Ajman University in 2005. After one year of internship at Dubai Health Authority, Dr. Jamal joined the Boston University Institute for Dental Research and Education – Dubai (BUIDRE), where he obtained his CAGS and MSD in Endodontics in 2011. During his residency at BUIDRE, Dr. Jamal was awarded a grant from the Emirates Foundation to support his research on dental pulp stem cells. While finishing his program at BUIDRE, Dr. Jamal was practicing endodontics in several clinics in Dubai. In 2012, Dr. Jamal joined the Goldman School of Dental Medicine, Boston University, USA to complete his DScD in Endodontics. Dr. Jamal joined the Center of Regenerative Medicine, at Boston University, where he was working on human embryonic and induced pluripotent stem cells. He developed protocols for directed differentiation of these cells into cells of different lineages such as endothelial cells, smooth muscle cells, neural crest cells, and dental pulp cells. Dr. Jamal received multiple awards, including the Young-Emirati Research Award, 2016 Best Research Award at Boston University, a research award from the American Association of Endodontics 2016, and Rashid Award for Scientific Excellence in 2019. Dr. Jamal is chair of the scientific committee of the Emirates Endodontic Society and a member of the scientific advisory board of the Journal of Endodontics.

Abstract:
Recent advances in diagnostic and digital assisted tools (such as CBCT, intra-oral scanning, 3D rendering, and printing) are allowing clinicians to make informed
decisions to plan and manage complex endodontic cases such as teeth with complex root canal anatomy, separated instruments, pulp canal obliteration, proximity to neurovascular bundle. However, before utilizing these tools, clinicians should develop a basic understanding of the science behind them. In this lecture, the author will review the current status and recent progress in using these digital tools and their clinical applications. Furthermore, he will share recent data from his research group on improving the accuracy, efficacy, and safety of these digital tools.
